A number of classic books have always bothered me. Heinlein books in particular are outrageously sexist, but you can't blame him for that. The majority of them were written in a sexist era.

However, the Incarnations of Immortality series, written in the mid-1980's, really should have known better. And the Clancy books... eesh.

What do I have to do to find a book with a decent female lead? I want a female lead that is intelligent, independent, non-neurotic, and neither an ultra-femminist nor a bitch. In other words, I want a female lead that is like the vast majority of women in the real world. Why can't I find in fiction what is so readily available in real life?

Oh well.
