I needed to draw a tough, grizzled version of Mary. I may have gone a little overboard, but what the hell? She looks cool. I mean, she HAD to have a scar and an eyepatch, right? Anyway, I like the way she turned out.

As for the Royal Writ, it isn't uncommon at all for a Vizier to create Royal documents without the monarch taking part. It's part of the job. Dealing with the details.
