Yes, in case you didn't see the news reports about it, that really did happen. Somalia has not had an effective government since 1995, and thus does not have the resources to patrol its waters. So there's actually a fair bit of pirate activity there.

"Cruise ship uses sonic weapon to fight off pirates" is the coolest headline I've ever seen in my entire life. Usually, sonic weapons and pirates can only be together by use of a time machine. I would like to personally thank Seabourn Cruise Lines and the hard-working pirates of Somalia for making this headline a reality.
