February 11, 2005 True story: When I was about 11 years old, my mom had a friend named Leo who would visit from time to time. One time he came over and he had a new trick question to show me. The actual question is "When does four plus six equal eleven?" And the answer is to draw a roman numeral 6 (VI) and an upside-down roman numeral 4 (IV) under it. The resulting shape looks like "XI", roman for eleven. Of course, nerd that I was, when he asked me "When does four plus six equal eleven?" I immediately answered "When you're working in base 9." I think I have "nerd" in my genes. -ATW |
